Dream

Ever had a dream that persisted? Some call it a calling or a whisper, a sign of something to come. Sometimes – in those dreams that come in the night – a different kind of dream – the dream is nonsensical. Jungian analysis helps with that.

Draw two lines down a page, vertically splitting a page into thirds. Write the the dream down in bits, slicing each concept, moment, person, entrance, exit into a ‘line’. Disassociate from the dream in the next column and write down what you associate with on each line. So, if you dream about screwing in a lightbulb, forget the storyline, and just respond to the concept of lightbulb or screwing in a lightbulb. Danger? Lighting up your life? The third column is for you to take each ‘part of you that is’ each part of the second column (your associations) and to talk about how each part of you relates to the other, or how each part is experiencing something else. It is remarkable how easy it is to make sense of a nonsensical dream.

Dreams. Tune into them. Trust them. Listen to them. They are the whisperings and the callings of your soul. What are your dreams? And what do your night dreams tell you about you?

Share if you feel like it, and tell me if you have a dream that means something to you.

First Day

January 1st isn’t the ‘new year’ for everyone on the planet. For some like the Chinese and like Muslims who also follow a non-Gregorian calendar, the new year is celebrated on a different date, and for others, the first day is every day, because they live like Buddhas in devotion of the now, believing now is all there is. Tomorrow is an illusion. Yesterday is gone but for memories which you can choose to indulge or not. What is important is that you have moments like this to take stock of the path you’ve been on.

Some say, don’t utter a word of your resolutions. There’s merit in that. Keeping them to yourself keeps inside an energy, a slow burn, a desire to prove, achieve and get there. Have you noticed? The last time you declared yourself and your intention, did you keep your promise to yourself, or did it fizzle away and did you shamefully say nothing more while you struggled to understand why you did that?

Keep your promises to yourself. Don’t let them leak away with the rain, the responsibilities, the dampness of the world, the distractions, the desolation that sometimes can hit you when you’ve passed your euphoria with the births, joys, hardships and deaths in a day and in a life. There are reasons, like the seasons, to come back to your inner self and listen. There are promises that show up just by listening. What are they?

A resolution is a promise to yourself that you are worthy of your own gifts to you. Your resolutions may be tangible or intangible, but they are all important and worthy of your love and nurturance. So, keep your resolutions under your tongue and begin. It is the first day of the year, and every day is a first day in the eyes of a master. Begin your self mastery with the promise to love you. The rest will follow.

Early mornings

There is nothing like an early morning to get you started. The quiet of the day seeps into your soul and gives you the strongest foundation from which to go forward.

Sit in a room which is sealed off from the street, if you can. The silence is fulfilling.

Your thoughts have room to grow. Your heart has space to feel.

Early mornings are the antidote to busy days…and busy nights.

For there is nothing like privately sitting with one’s own soul to wake one up properly to life after life has taken its lovely toll.
